The children’s portrait session that I am about to share with you is in a format which I call All About Me.  These types of session sit somewhere between a styled shoot and a lifestyle shoot, and are aimed at children between 4 and 7 years old. The aim of each session is to tell a story about one child, at a specific time. These sessions are styled, using your child’s favourite things as well as some items which will add to the look and feel of the shoot. It could be about a specific location (the zoo, the funfair), activity based (baking, camping, painting) or we could even their favourite book as the starting point for the session. While this would be a styled shoot, the images will still be captured in a really candid natural way, encouraging them to play and be themselves throughout the session.

The idea is that I ask loads of questions when planning the session so we can create an activity to centre the shoot around, and a set of images that represent this lovely little lady at the moment in time. So I asked Izzy’s mum questions about her personality, what she likes to do, what she is into right now & even her favourite colours. Like many little girls at the moment, Izzy LOVES the movie Frozen. This became our starting point, and as I didn’t want the session to become ‘Disney-fied’, her mum and I put our heads together to bring this session to life. We kept in mind, sparkles, pastel tones, all while baking Frozen themed cupcakes.

All About Me sessions are best showcased in a gorgeous album or collage of images that allow you to remember every moment of the story we are trying to tell. This is the story of who your child is right now, in this very moment. I would recommend including a good mix of beautiful portraits, details shots as well as some of the bigger picture.
